St. Lucia Airport Redevelopment Project

St. Lucia’s Hewanorra International Airport Redesign Showcases an Island on the Rise

St lucia Airport Redevelopment Project
Caribbean travel has long been a popular choice for travelers.  Beautiful beaches, gorgeous scenery, tropical weather, and deluxe accommodations make the region one that most travelers put on their bucket lists.  The island of St. Lucia is certainly a top choice for travelers to the region, and with a new $175 million dollar upgrade to Hewanorra (UVF) International Airport breaking ground recently, the island is doubling down on tourism as a primary source of income.

The renovation intends to not only bring Hewanorra International Airport current with other similarly sized airport, but to enlarge Hewanorra to offer considerably more space, better technology, and above all, potential for growth.   As the airport becomes a hub for travel into the region, it will bring with it more hotels and other developments that help thrust St. Lucia into the Caribbean and international travel spotlight.   In fact, it is hoped that the new airport construction will spur the growth of St. Lucia’s hotel room stock from the current 5,000 to over 6,000 initially.

Hewanorra International Airport’s redesign and construction has been funded by the government of Taiwan and is expected to take approximately 30 months to complete.

This gives the island’s tourism authority and other governing bodies time to keep up negotiations with airports and international agencies to boost the number of countries and airlines offering flights to Hewanorra.

There is no doubt that this project is big, and when added to endeavors such as the Soufriere Town Square and the recently built Hummingbird Beach Park, it is clear that this island is truly on the rise.
